Don't miss this month's dinner and program!  Mario Machnicki and Tai Olson, from US Heritage Group, will be guiding specifiers through the best practices for designing and installing Hempcrete in residential construction.  This accredited program (AIA CES 1LU|HSW) will begin with dinner at 5:30p.m. and the course will follow at 6:30p.m.

At the end of this course, participants will understand the composition and function of Hempcrete in a wall system, be able to design a framing system to be compatible with Hempcrete, specify guidelines for the successful installation of Hempcrete on a building, and be able to select proper finishes for a Hempcrete wall system.

You may be wondering:

What is Hempcrete?
Hempcrete is a bio-composite masonry material formed from hemp aggregate and a hydraulic lime binder.  The specific ingredients can vary in terms of size, proportion, and chemistry.

What are its uses?
Hempcrete is used as an insulating wall system.  It also contributes to the thermal mass of the wall and the substrate for the wall finish or cladding.

Is it structural?
Hempcrete is not structural and relies on traditional framing systems to supply the structural elements of the wall.

Is it decorative?
Hempcrete can be left partially exposed on interior applications as a decorative surface, but requires some kind of surface protection to avoid physical damage.  Hempcrete should not be left exposed on exterior applications due to increased weathering and exposure.
